    Description

You are bidding on a fabulous piece of Lake Michigan driftwood crowned with the region's most iconic collectible,
    Petoskey Stone
—a rock composed of fossilized rugose coral,
    Hexagonaria percarinata
. Sixty or seventy years ago, it was a lot easier to walk the Lake Michigan shore near Petoskey, Michigan and find large Petoskey stones like this one that we found back then.
The driftwood measures 22 x 16 x 10" high. The whole thing weighs 3 pounds 4.8 ounces. The mushroom—two sanded and polished Petoskey pieces glued together and glued into a holed drilled in the driftwood—stands 4" high. The cap measures 115mm (4½") x 100mm (3-7/8") x 44mm (1¾") deep. I do not know how to translate those measurements into the stone's weight. For scale, the US quarter is 15/16" in diameter.
